"The Silent Killer"
"The Silent Killer", hypertension, has for centuries plagued millions.
In the United States in 2020, nearly half of adults had hypertension (119.9 million). Only 1 in 4 adults with hypertension have their hypertension under control (27.0 million), according to the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES).
It is responsible for 500,000 deaths each year in the U.S. It is called the "Silent Killer" because, for many, there are no symptoms; and because the majority of the medications prescribed cause adverse side-effects, people choose not to take them, which is not wise and can be deadly.
The consequences of ignoring this problem includes: damage to the heart and coronary arteries, including heart attack, heart disease, congestive heart failure, aortic dissection, and atherosclerosis, stroke, kidney damage, vision loss, erectile dysfunction, memory loss, and angina (heart pain on exertion).
What can be done to CURE this problem?
That is the subject of June's Pearls for Health, so stay tuned.
