Everything negative about sodium in relation to hypertension, potassium does the exact opposite. High potassium containing foods like beans, fruit and vegetables will help bring down blood pressure by relaxing the blood vessel walls.

Eating 5 servings of fruits and vegetables daily and 1-2 servings of beans will definitely be beneficial.

You may ask what fruits, vegetables and beans are best. I respond, “the ones you eat are the best.” Another lifestyle habit that is very beneficial in reducing blood pressure is exercise. Being active for just 30 minutes daily has the potential of reducing your blood pressure by as much as 10 mm/Hg.

So for lower blood pressures eat fruits, vegetables and beans daily and as covered last week, minimize your sodium intake by reading the food labels; and watch that blood pressure fall!
